Loch Maree is in the far northwest of
Scotland, 53 miles northwest of Inverness, 76
miles southwest of Ullapool, via the A832 road to
Gairloch and Inverewe Gardens that are at
the small village of Poolewe.
The road down from the Ullapool side from
Corrieshalloch Gorge is the most
scenic.
Loch Maree Viewpoint is 1 mile south of
Poolewe at a high point with a real narrow road
down to the west end of the Loch, with the best
pics from up high.
There is then a 14 mile drive around a
peninsular past Gairloch
village to the Loch Maree Hotel where the road
runs alongside the south side of the Loch.

The Image top right is of the Loch Maree Hotel on the south
side of the Loch where the road runs alongside
the Loch.
The second image is from the Hotel Gardens
looking over to over 60 Islands close to the
north side of the Loch.
There are no roads down the north side due
to high mountains.
Isle Maree is a small Island out past the
larger Islands, close to the north shore.
There used to be Boat Trips to Isle Maree
from the Hotel, but in 2025 it does not seem to
be operating anymore.
You can hire boats at the Hotel for
Fishing.
Most people visiting Isle Maree just now do
so by Kayak.
Isle Maree is a
Holy Isle with an old Chapel, Old Graves and
Trees with Coins hammered into them for good
luck. The Isle has attracted Pilgrims since the
700s.
Just east of the Hotel is a large Car Park
next to the Loch.
A short drive past the large Car Park you
get great views across to Slioch Mountain at
981m / 3,219ft.
Letterewe Lodge is also across from here
that can only be reached by boat, available for
holidays with boat trips to Isle Maree
available for Lodge Guests only.
