31 miles northeast of Aviemore, 19 miles east of
Grantown-on-Spey, off the main A95 road at the
village of Ballindalloch, 5 miles down the
B9008 country road.
The Distillery can be visited most of the
year for the Shop, Bar Lounge and Tours.

Glenlivet Distillery History
1500s - the vast, remote Glenlivet Estate
was owned by the Gordon's with a number of
Illegal Distilleries on the Estate, i.e. they
did not pay Government taxes.
1824 - The Glenlivet Distillery was founded
by the very small village of Glenlivet by
George Smith as the first Legal Distillery in
the Speyside area of Scotland.
1859 - a new larger Glenlivet Distillery was
opened close to the original.
1953 - The Glenlivet merged with Glen Grant,
another big name Distillery in Speyside.
1977 - the Canadian drinks and media company
Seagram took over The Glenlivet and Glen
Grant.
2000 - Pernod Ricard took over The
Glenlivet.
2007 - The Glenlivet was claimed to be the
top selling Malt Whisky in the US.
2021 - a new large Visitor Centre was opened
at The Glenlivet Distillery as seen in the
images right.
