Built for the Bahamas based company ResidenSea, The World is the first new built ship in this class. Resident ships are expected to become the largest in the world in the near future. Many huge vessels that have already been designed for this purpose, are waiting funding to be built.

The World has 110 spacious private apartments and 88 guest suits. Each of these apartments are privately owned with many being available for rent when the owners are not onboard. Each apartment has a kitchen, two or three bedrooms, bathroom, living/dinning room and veranda. This ship has 9 passenger decks, 2 pools, various bars, casino, an extensive fitness center and sports facilities. The World can carry a maximum of 976 passengers and a crew of 320.

The World is operated on continuous round the world cruises with extended stopovers at each port. These stopovers regularly coincide with major events throughout the world like the Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Grand Prix and the British Open golf tournament. The World’s main cruise destinations are the Mediterranean Sea and Canary Islands, Baltic Sea, British Isles and Norwegian Fjords, United States, Caribbean, and South America.

The order for a second 50,000-ton resident ship that was to be completed by 2003 has since been put back to a later date, or may have been cancelled.

Apartments on The World can be booked from the website aboardtheworld.com.
