This cruise ship was originally built for the Comodore Cruise Line as their Crown Jewel. The second cruise ship of this class, Crown Dynasty, entered service in 1993.

As Comodore was operating a fleet of older cruise ships at that time, they founded a new company named the Crown Cruise Line to operate their new built ships. As the company soon hit financial difficulties, they hired Cunard to take over the running of their ships. As Cunard were unable to turn the losses around, the Crown Cruise Line was forced to sell their ships. This allowed Star Cruises to buy Crown Jewel in 1999 to be operated in the ever-increasing Far Eastern market under the name Superstar Gemini.

These ships have 7 passenger decks, 1 pool, 3 bars, casino, fitness center, 400-seat showroom, 281 outside cabins with10 having balconies, 123 inside cabins, can carry 808 passengers and a crew of 470.

Superstar Gemini’s main route was from Singapore - Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, & the islands Penang, Langkawi & Phuket off Thailand.

Her sister ship Crown Dynasty joined the Fred Olsen cruise line in 2001 under the name Braemar.

Superstar Gemini was sold to the Spanish operator, Quail Cruises, also operating under the name Happy Cruises, in 2009 to be operated under the name Gemini. She was operated on a wide range of cruises throughout the Mediterranean, Baltic Sea and Scandinavia.

Quail Cruises went bust in September 2011, this seeing Gemini being put up for sale.

This ship was used as an accommodation vessel in the Shetland Islands of Scotland for oil workers. She is expected to be put up for sale as a cruise ship again late in 2015.
