WORLD WAR II AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
With all the naval powers trying to reach
agreements that would restrict the size of
capital ships, many warships intended to be
built as cruisers and battleships were
completed as aircraft carriers.
Most of the battleships sunk during World
War Two were lost to torpedo and dive bomb
aircraft. This led to aircraft carriers taking
over from battleships as the most important
ships in a modern navy.
