The Seabourn Cruise Line was founded in
1987 by a group of Norwegian investors
based in Miami. This new line ordered three
small cruise ships that can be described as
large luxury yachts. The first of the three
sister ships Seabourn Pride
entered service in 1988 with the second
Seabourn Spirit following in
1989. The order for a third ship of this
class was cancelled before it could be
completed. The Royal Viking Line bought the
third ship after its completion in 1992 to
be operated under the name Royal
Viking Queen. This ship was
later transferred to the Royal Cruise Line
and renamed Queen Odyssey.
After the Royal Cruise Line folded in 1996,
Queen Odyssey joined her two
sister ships after being bought by the
Seabourn Cruise Line to be operated under
the name Seabourn Legend.
This class of ship has 6 passenger
decks, 1 pool, 3 bars, casino, fitness
center, 102 cabins, can carry 204 passenger
and a crew of 150.
Seabourn
Pride is operated on a wide
variety of cruises throughout the Far East
out of the ports Hong Kong, Kobe, Shanghai
& Xingang.
Spirit's main cruise rout
is between Civitavecchia by Rome &
Venice stopping at various ports throughout
the Mediterranean.
Legend is operated on
cruises throughout the Mediterranean from
the ports of Monte Carlo, Barcelona &
Rome. Another regular route is from Fort
Lauderdale - Caribbean.
The Carnival Cruise Line bought 25
percent of Seabourn’s shares in 1991
and another 25 percent in 1996.
