Princess Cruises was founded in 1965 by
operating converted liners as cruise ships.
P&O took control of Princess in 1974 with
the agreement they would continue under their
original name. Ten years later, Princess
Cruises ordered their first new built cruise
ship, Royal Princess. Her
design is quite unique as she was the first
cruise ship completed with no inside
cabins.
Royal Princess has 9 passenger
decks, 3 pools, fitness center, 6 bars,
casino, 600-seat show lounge, 600 cabins of
which 150 have balconies, can carry 1,200
passengers and a crew of 520.
Royal Princess was normally
operated from New York - New England &
Canada. New York - British Isles. Cruises
throughout the British Isles, Northern Europe
& the Mediterranean. Her destinations out
of Fort Lauderdale were to Los Angeles via
the Panama Canal, throughout the Caribbean
& South America. The South America
cruises took in the Panama Canal, Amazon
River & Cape Horn.
Royal
Princess joined the P&O fleet in
2005 to be operated on cruises out of
Southhampton/England & Barbados under the
name Artemis. The cruises from
Southampton visit various ports throughout
the Mediterranean Sea, Baltic Sea, Norway
& Iceland, Portugal & Atlantic
Islands, Singapore, Australia and New
Zealand.
