The Norwegian Cruise Line was founded in 1966 after the Kloster family bought their first passenger ship, the 28,000-ton Sunward. With this ship failing to run at a profit on cruises from Southampton - Gibraltar, they had her relocated to Miami. That move soon proved a complete success as the cruise industry out of Miami continued to grow each year. With Sunward running at a profit on cruises from Miami - Nassau, NCL ordered three 16,000-ton cruise ships Starward, Skyward and Southward. The next addition to the Norwegian Cruise Line was the 66,348-ton Trans Atlantic liner France. They began a new era in cruising by converting that liner into the largest cruise ship in the world at that time. With the instant success of the converted liner under the name Norway, the Norwegian Cruise Line began ordering new large ships specially designed for cruising.

The first of these ships was Sealand with 9 passenger decks, 2 pools, 8 bars, casino, fitness center, 770 seat show lounge, 517 outside cabins, 250 inside cabins, can carry 1,518 passengers and a crew of 680.

NCL mainly operated Sealand on cruises out of Miami - Bahamas, Miami - Western Caribbean & Mexico, and New York - New England & Canada.

Sealand’s name was changed to Norwegian Sea in 1997. Norwegian Sea was then operated on 7 night cruises out of Houston - Mexico & Western Caribbean. This ship was transferred to NCL's parent company Star Cruises in 2005 to be operated under the name Superstar Libra.

Superstar Libra is now mainly operated on Malaysian cruises out of Penang - Phuket & Krabi. Reviews.
