Megastar Taurus was one of two cruise ships in this class originally built for the Greek owned Navtol line. The intended names for these two ships were Lady Diana and Lady Sarah. As Navtol couldn’t pay for the ships after completion, they were sold to the New Frontier Cruise Line to be operated under the names Aurora I and Aurora II. By the early 1990s, the number of new cruise ships entering service in Europe and America had outgrown the market. New Frontier became one of the cruise lines forced into liquidation at that time, this allowing Star Cruises to add Aurora I and Aurora II to their fleet in 1994.

Star Cruises began operating these ships in the ever-increasing Far Eastern cruise market under the names Megastar Taurus and Megastar Aires. With them joining Star Cruise’s first two ships, the two 40,012- ton converted ferries Star Pisces and Star Aquarius that they acquired in 1993, the new company showed they intended expanding throughout the Far East.

Both ships have 4 passenger decks, 1 small pool, gymnasium, 36 outside cabins; can carry 72 passengers and a crew of 80.

These ships were operated on two and three day cruises between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and seven night cruises to various Asian countries.

Megastar Taurus will join Crystal Cruises in late 2015 as their Crystal Esprit.

Megastar Aires is used by Star Cruises on short cruises and often chrtered as a Yacht under the name The Taipan.
