Hapag Lloyd built the fourth ship to use the name Europa to replace the Europa that had been in service from 1982. The fourth Europa, built in 1999, then became the new flagship of Hapag Lloyd Cruises. The 33,819 ton Europa from 1982 was sold to Star Cruises at this time to be operated under the name Superstar Aries. This ship was sold to Pullmantur in 2004 to be operated as their Holiday Dream. In 2008, this ship was transferred to the French cruise line, CDF Croisières de Francere to be operated as their Bleu de France, then in 2011 she was transferred to Saga Cruises to be operated as their Saga Saphire.

The first Europa built for the Hamburg Amerika Line was launched in 1928 weighing 49,746 tons. The next Europa entered service for the Swedish America Line in 1953 as their 21,149-ton Kungsholm III. This ship was transferred to the Hamburg Amerika Line in 1965 to be operated under the name Europa.

The 1999 Europa has 7 passenger decks, 3 pools, 4 bars, casino, fitness center, 44-seat movie theatre, 409-seat show lounge, 204 cabins that are all situated on the outside with 168 having balconies, can carry 408 passengers and a crew of 264.

Europa's Itinerary is wide ranging including throughout the Mediterranean, Western Europe, Northern Europe, Africa, Arabia, Southeast Asia, India, Far East, Australia & New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexican Riviera, and the Panama Canal.

The 40,000 ton Europa II entered service in 2013.
