Deutschland was the second cruise ship built for Peter Deilmann Cruises. This company’s first purpose built cruise ship, the 9,570-ton Berlin, entered service in 1980. Soon after Berlin entered service, Peter Deilmann Cruises began building up one of the largest fleets of riverboats in the world. These riverboats were operated on all the major rivers throughout Europe.

Deilmann also had one sailing vessel, Lili Marleen, based year round at the Galapagos. This vessel was sold in 2005. The river boats were all sold off after the 2010 season.

Deutschland has 7 passenger decks, 2 pools, 3 bars, fitness center, ballroom, 83-seat cinema, 224 outside cabins, 64 inside cabins, can carry 513 passengers and a crew of 240.

Deutschland's Itinerary is normally from Kiel/Germany - various ports throughout the Baltic Sea, Norwegian Fjords, Arctic Circle & Iceland. Another route from Kiel is to Scotland, Ireland, England & Cuxhaven. Other cruises take in the Mediterranean, North & South America, South Pacific, Australia & Africa.

Berlin was sold to Spirit of Adventure in 2006 leaving this company with the one cruise ship Deutschland.

Peter Deilmann Cruises stopped operating in 2015 with their ship Deutschland now serving as a floating university for Semester at Sea.
