Balmoral was originaly built for the Royal Cruise Line as their Crown Odyssey. After the Norwegian Cruise Line acquired the Royal Cruise Line in 1996, they began operating Crown Odyssey under the name Norwegian Crown.

Her itinerarys then included regular cruises between Santiago/Chile and Buenos Aires/Argentina by traveling around the Cape of Good Hope and short cruises out of New York and Port Canaveral - Bahamas. She was relocated to NCLs sister company the Orient Line in 2000 to be operated under her original name Crown Odyssey.

Crown Odyssey was transferred back to NCL in 2006 to be operated under the name Norwegian Crown on 7 night cruises out of New York & Philadelphia - Bermuda.

This ship joined the Fred Olsen cruise line early in 2008 to be operated under the name Balmoral.

Balmoral has 10 passengers decks, 2 pools, 8 bars, casino, fitness center, 500-seat theatre, 412 outside cabins of which 16 have balconies, 114 inside cabins, can carry 1,052 passengers and crew of 450.
