Museum of Archaeology and the Roman
ruins of Tarraco, which has been
designated a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO.
Tarragona also has a wall
surrounding the old city. There are
two gates through the wall of
Tarragona: the Portal del Roser and
the Portal de Sant Antoni.

Tarragona Cathedral is believed
to have been founded by St.
Olegarius. The building is solid
and elegant, combining the
Romanesque, Arabic, and Gothic
styles of architecture, producing a
very original and unique
effect.
Its facade is composed of three
sections, and the ground plan, in
the form of a Latin cross, has
three naves and a wide transept. In
the right nave is the chapel of St.
Tecla, patroness of the city, begun
in 1760 under the direction of Don
José Prats and finished in
1776.

A popular attraction in the area
is to Montserrat, a mountain near
Barcelona, that is the site of a
Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de
Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin
of Montserrat sanctuary and which
is identified by some with the
location of the Holy Grail in
Arthurian myth.
The abbey can be reached by
road, or by the Aeri de Montserrat
cable car, or by the Montserrat
Rack Railway.
