Tarragona Plaza

Tarragona Plaza shows more recent architecture typical of the town.

Tourist attractions include the Museum of Archaeology and the Roman ruins of Tarraco, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Tarragona also has a wall surrounding the old city. There are two gates through the wall of Tarragona: the Portal del Roser and the Portal de Sant Antoni.


Tarragona Cathedral is believed to have been founded by St. Olegarius. The building is solid and elegant, combining the Romanesque, Arabic, and Gothic styles of architecture, producing a very original and unique effect.

Its facade is composed of three sections, and the ground plan, in the form of a Latin cross, has three naves and a wide transept. In the right nave is the chapel of St. Tecla, patroness of the city, begun in 1760 under the direction of Don José Prats and finished in 1776.

Reus Plaza Mercadal

The town of Reus is situated about 3 miles west of Reus Airport, about 8 miles west of Salou and Tarragona.

Reus is the capital of the comarca of Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, in Catalonia.

The area has always been an important producer of wines and spirits, and gained continental importance at the time of the Phylloxera plague.

Nowadays it is known by its commercial activity and for being the place were the world-famous architect Gaudi was born.


The Reus Plaza Prim shows the statue of General Prim, one of Spain's great military commanders in the 1800s.

Sitges

Sitges is a small city about 35 miles north of Tarragona, renowned worldwide for its Film Festival and Carnival.

Situated between the hills and the sea, it is known for its much-frequented beaches, nightspots, and historical sites.

Montserrat

A popular attraction in the area is to Montserrat, a mountain near Barcelona, that is the site of a Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.

The abbey can be reached by road, or by the Aeri de Montserrat cable car, or by the Montserrat Rack Railway.
