The Alcazaba,
Malaga's Castle, sits high above
the scenic harbour area and old
town centre. It was built on top
of the remains of a roman
fortress, expanded and completed
in the 14th century by the
Nasrides. The castle is now a
ruin but within its walls are two
museums.
The archeological
museum shows findings from the
gotic and greek centuries and the
Museo de la Ceramica displays
mostly pottery.

A view from Malaga Castle shows
the scenic harbour that attracts
some of the largest cruise ships in
the world.

Below Malaga Castle are the
ruins of a Roman theatre dating
to the 2nd century, currently
undergoing restoration.

Malaga's cathedral was built
between 1528 and 1782 on or near
the site of a former mosque.
While original plans had allowed
for two towers, lack of funds
resulted in the completion of only
one, giving rise to the name by
which the cathedral is
affectionately referred to, La
Manquita, loosely interpreted as
"one armed woman".

Malaga beach, in
the neighbourhood called
Malagueta, is situated east of
the harbour and south of Plaza de
Toros, Malaga’s bullring.
The beach was artificially made
in the late 1800s using sand from
the Sahara desert in Africa.
Because of the
fact that it is close to the
centre, many people from Malaga
go to this beach when the weather
is good. It is possible to both
swim here and practice water
sports. At night, the place is
used by joggers and mountain
bikers and once in a while a
romantic couple enjoying the
clear view on the stars.

Toerremolinos, beach resort
town, is situated about 9 miles
west of Malaga. Over the years,
Torremolinos has evolved as an
attractive and appealing resort,
noted for its clean sandy beaches,
wide choice of hotels and
restaurants and unparalleled
variety of entertainment,
activities and nightlife
available.
At the height of
summer, the resort has a great
appeal for the younger set, with a
reputation for its hectic
nightlife.
Out of season,
however, it takes on a different
character. Now practically a suburb
of Malaga, the atmosphere is much
more Spanish, especially at
weekends, with an air of
friendliness and welcome.

Fuengirola, beach resort town,
is situated about 19 miles west of
Malaga. Previously, a tiny fishing
village, Fuengirola has become a
vibrant metropolis with character.
The advent of many up-market tapa
bars and good restaurants,
interspersed with chic boutiques
and other shops of interest, as
well as fabulous beaches makes it
the perfect holiday
destination.
One of the Fuengirola’s
main attractions is, of course, its
wonderful seven kilometres (five
miles) of sandy beaches, stretching
from the Sohail Castle to the west
and Torreblanca to the east.

Marbella's motto is "A Way of

with the rich and famous, as well
as more ordinary folk who are
willing to pay just a little bit
extra for southern Spain's answer
to St Tropez. More
