Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura, situated about 3 miles north of the Airport.

The town is built around the port that is constantly expanding to accommodate the ever increasing number of cruise ships visiting the island.

Although Puerto del Rosario in not one of the islands resorts, the entire sea front and its beaches have been developed recently for leisure and beach fun, no doubt to make the town more interesting for the cruise ship visitors, and day visitors from the resorts.

Caleta de Fuste is situated about 7 miles south of the Airport.

This purpose built family resort was built around a cove that has a sheltered beach ideal for water sports.

The large beach has been built up with sand imported from Africa. The beach area offers jet skiing, windsurfing, diving & boat trips.

Caleta de Fuste is also a good base to explore Fuerteventura as everywhere on the island is within an hour’s travel.

There is also a Championship Golf Course within the resort.

The resort seems to be most popular with UK & German holiday makers.

Corralejo is situated about 26 miles north of the Airport at the northern end of Fuerteventura.

This is the largest Holiday Resort on the island, normally regarded as a Family resort, popular with tourists from the UK, Spain, Germany, Holland & Scandinavia.

The old part of the town is built around the harbour with a small sheltered beach. Most of the hotels and apartments are situated just south of the old town, where there is a vast sandy beach flanked by sand dunes.

The marina allows trips on pleasure craft and to the island of Lobos, a small island that is about 15 minutes travel. You can also catch a ferry to Playa Blanca on the island of Lanzarote from here, about 20 minutes travel time.

The area also has the Baku Water Park with flumes, slides and a large swimming pool area. Diving and big-game fishing trips operate from the port.

El Cotillo is a small village at the northern end of Fuerteventura, 12 miles west of Corralejo.

The village is built around a small scenic harbour used by the local fishermen, with a few bars and restaurants alongside.

The vast beaches that attract the tourists and accommodation, are situated on the south side of the village.

Las Playitas is situated about 27 miles south of the Airport.

This tourist resort was built next to a small fishing village, that is basically a few houses, bars, restaurants and a lighthouse.

The resort mainly consists of holiday apartments and the large Playitas Hotel and Apartments that offers many activities such as golf, tennis, olympic sized pool, fitness centre and more. Google Map

Las Playitas beach is dark sand, a typical Canary Island beach that has not had imported sand laid on top. The resort also has facilities for sailing and diving.

The resort is popular with UK and other northern European visitors.

The town of Gran Tarajal is situated about 3 miles south.

Costa Calma is situated about 38 miles south of the airport.

This is a purpose built beach resort with a long white sandy beach that runs south towards the neighbouring resorts of Playa de Esquinzo and Morro Jable.

The area is made up of a few large hotels and holiday apartments along the beach, that is good for sun bathing and water sports, including wind surfing.

The resort attracts many German tourists as well as UK and other northern Europeans.

Playa de Esquinzo image

Esquinzo is situated just a few miles south of Costa Calma.

This is an upmarket, quiet family resort with good beaches, high end accommodation, and good leisure facilities.

The resort is especially popular with German tourists looking for a relaxing holiday, as are the other resorts on the south side of the island.

Morro Jable is situated at the southern end of Fuerteventura about 50 miles from the airport.

The old port of Morro Jable is an interesting tourist attraction with a fishing fleet, tour boats, sports fishing boats and a ferry service to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, that takes about 1 hour 30 mins.

The tourist beaches and accommodation are on the east side of the town. The first part of the beach, next to the town, is used by non naturists, and the part east of the lighthouse, used by naturists.

The town is especially popular with German tourists.
