Fuerteventura is one of the Canary
Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the
coast of Africa, the second largest of
the islands.
Puerto del Rosario is the capital of
Fuerteventura. It is a busy working port
that continues to develop, mainly to
allow more cruise ships to be
accommodated.
The Beach Resorts that attract most of
the tourists are situated around the
Island. These are mainly small resorts
for family holidays. Most are popular
with a mixture of European visitors.

Puerto del

sea front and two town beaches have
recently been developed for leisure

Caleta de
Fuste is a purpose built
family holiday resort situated
about 7 miles south of the Airport.
It has been created around an
original cove to create a safe,
sheltered environment for beach
activities.
The large beach at Caleta de
Fuste has been created from pale
golden sand, that was brought in
especially for the purpose. There
are many water activities such as
jet-skiing, windsurfing, diving
& sea excursions.
Caleta de Fuste's central
location on the east coast, makes
it an ideal base for those wanting
to explore Fuerteventura.
Everywhere on the island is within
an hour’s journey.
There is also a Championship Golf
Course within the resort.
The resort seems to be used
50/50 by UK & German holiday
makers.

Corralejo is a Family
tourist resort situated about 26
miles north of the Airport at the
northern end of Fuerteventura. It
is the largest Holiday Resort on
the island.
The original part of the town is
based around the old harbour, with
a popular small sheltered beach.
The main tourist hotels and
apartments are situated just south
of the old town with miles of sandy
beaches and sand dunes.
The marina offers pleasure craft
and a ferry services to Lanzarote
and Lobos, a small island that is a
15 minute ferry ride from
Fuerteventura.
In the area are the Baku
Water Park, featuring a variety
of flumes and slides plus a large
swimming pool area. More
adventurous types can go diving or
big-game fishing with the operators
who can be found at the port.
The area has a large residential
population from the UK, Spain,
Germany, Holland &
Scandinavia.

El
Cotillo is a small village
at the northern end of
Fuerteventura, 12 miles west of
Corralejo.
The village is centred around
the small harbour that is mostly
used by local fishermen. There are
several bars and restaurants close
to the old harbour and the views
from El Toston are particularly
pleasing.
There are miles of beaches to
the south of this part of sunny
Fuerteventura. The beaches are
excellent, and even on a busy day
they are too large to be
overcrowded.

Las
Playitas is situated about
27 miles south of the Airport. This
used to be a small Spanish fishing
village with a few houses, typical
Spanish bars, restaurants and a
majestic lighthouse, El Faro de
Entalada.
Although the village is still
intact, the rest of the bay, which
is divided from the village by a
headland, has been taken over as
part of the new Bahia Grande luxury
facilities and a large hotel.
The hotel has a large swimming
pool and a waterslide and
facilities for children.
Las Playitas has a beautiful
beach, however the sand is almost
black. There are facilities for
sailing and diving on the
beach.
The resort is popular with UK,
German, Swiss and French holiday
makers.
The town of Gran
Tarajal is situated about 3
miles south.

Costa
Calma, situated about 38
miles south of the airport, is a
true beach resort, having been
built adjacent to a mile long
section of white sandy beaches that
run for about twelve miles from
Costa Calma to Morro Jable.
The colourful seas that lap the
shores of this part of
Fuerteventura are relatively
benign. The area as a whole is very
popular with beach lovers and wind
surfers.
The nightlife is mostly tailored
toward the German speaking tourists
although there are still some bars
for English and Spanish speaking
Tourists.

Playa de
Esquinzo is a relaxed family
resort with wonderful beaches that
is very popular with German
tourists, situated just a few miles
south of Costa Calma.
It is an upmarket resort with
excellent accommodation and good
leisure facilities.
A Playa de Esquinzo holiday
offers a relaxing break in an
attractive resort framed by barren
hills and facing golden sands and
blue sea.

Morro
Jable is at the southern end
of Fuerteventura, just under one
hours drive south of the airport,
about 50 miles. This resort has a
strong German influence.
The older parts of Morro Jable
are either side of the headland
around which the village was built.
The port was originally the home of
the fishing fleet, and still is,
but now hosts a variety of tourist
attractions, including a catamaran
and several sports fishing vessels,
and a ferry service to Gran
Canaria.
The beach at Morro Jable is part
of a long line of natural white
sandy beaches. The beach to the
east of the impressive lighthouse
is used more by naturists, while
that to the west is used more by
non naturists. On the beach to the
west of the lighthouse it is
possible to hire yachts to
sail.
